Everything you need to know about our program, enrollment process, schedules, and more.
A pre-apprenticeship program prepares individuals for formal apprenticeship or entry-level employment in a skilled trade. Our program gives you the hands-on training, safety knowledge, and technical skills needed to get hired and succeed in the HVAC and sheet metal industry.
We focus on commercial HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) and sheet metal work — specifically duct fabrication and installation. These are in-demand skills across Houston's construction and building maintenance industries.
Yes. We are a registered nonprofit organization. Our goal is not profit — it's people. All program fees go directly toward training materials, instruction, and program operations.
Craft Skills Foundation Inc. is powered by First Choice Duct Installers, LLC — an experienced HVAC contractor based in Houston, TX. Their industry expertise shapes every aspect of our curriculum.
Our program is open to anyone seeking new opportunities in the skilled trades. You do not need prior experience to apply for the Entry Level Helper track. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds who are ready to commit to learning.
Applicants must be 18 years or older, have a high school diploma or GED (or be actively working toward one), be able to perform basic physical tasks required on a job site, and agree to our drug-free workplace policy. Completing the entry assessment is the first step.
Start by completing our online entry assessment. It takes about 10–15 minutes and helps us understand your experience level and goals. Our team will review your submission and reach out within 1–2 business days to discuss your placement and next steps.
Yes. We maintain a drug-free workplace policy. Participants may be required to submit to a drug test prior to starting training or being placed with an employer partner. This is consistent with industry standards.
We offer three tracks: Entry Level Helper Training (32 hours) for beginners; Level 1–4 Mechanics Training (128 hours per level) for those pursuing full qualification as an HVAC Sheetmetal Mechanic; and Blueprint & Specification Readings (60 hours) for those needing to master technical drawings.
It depends on the track. The Entry Level Helper course can be completed in a few weeks. The Mechanics Training is structured in levels and can take several months to complete depending on your pace and availability. Visit our Class Schedule page for current session dates.
We offer both daytime and evening sessions to accommodate different schedules. Check our Class Schedule page for current and upcoming session times.
Please contact us directly for current tuition information. As a nonprofit, we work to keep costs accessible and may have financial assistance or scholarship options available for qualifying students.
Yes. We work directly with employer partners who hire our graduates. Our first graduating class achieved a 100% employment rate — every student secured a job in the field. We're committed to connecting you with real opportunities after you complete the program.
